A Look At Different Types of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are generally injectable gels  which are used to fill in areas that are sunken on the face. For instance, an individual can use dermal fillers to plump up expression lines or wrinkles, to restore or increase the volume of the lips and increase cheeks which are sunken as one ages. There are many types of dermal fillers and they are all designed for particular needs. The following are some forms of fillers that you should know about.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronice acid fillers are the most widely used in today’s aesthetic clinics. made up of complex sugar molecules, Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is present in skin, joints etc. it is a key ingredient in well known fillers such as Juverderm and Restylane. Hyaluronic acid is great for plumping up sunken cheeks, lips and temples, softening deep wrinkle folds like laugh lines and augmenting flat noses and chins.

Calcium Hydroxyapatite

This is a different type of filler and is called Radiesse. Calcium hydroxyapatite is a naturally occurring product found in human bones. It is a firm substance that is vital in filling in deep creases such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines. You can also use it to increase volume very nicely in your cheeks. Patients like it for the fact that it holds very well, so it is great if you want a sharp looking nose bridge or chin. For that reason, it is highly popular in Korea and Taiwan.

It is also shown in studies that calcium hydroxyapatite is able to stimulate the body’s one collagen production, leading to a natural rejuvenative effect with repeat radiesse injections.

Poly-L lactic Acid (PLLA)

This is a synthetic substance that stimulates collagen production. PLLA is marketed as sculptra. The unique thing about poly-L lactic acid is that the changes are subtle not noticeable over time. the treated areas will fill in after a few weeks as your skin creates new collagen, reversing the aging process. poly-L lactic acid is great to naturally plump up a tired sagging face, fill in those sunken cheeks and temples, and soften the laugh lines. Because the process is gradual, no one will suspect that you had anything done, except to wonder how you are appearing fresher and younger with time.

Body Fat

It is also called autologous fat and it uses the body’s own fat. It is normally taken from areas where you do not require it and then transferred to areas where you need it. For example, from the tummy or hips, to the breasts, buttocks, face and hands. This is a good alternative to patients who are allergic to other commercial filler substances. As fat is abundant in some patients, it can also be a cheaper alternative. However, it is considered a form of minimally invasive surgery and time needs to be set aside to rest and recover from the procedure. Fat survival is also variable, and quoted in studies to be about 50-90%. The advantage would be that the fat that survives will be long lasting and natural.

To get the most our of any dermal filler procedure, it is good to work with a certified doctor who is the best person to help you achieve that youthful, refreshed and natural look.
